Two teenage girls were so fed up with one girl's parents shutting off their Internet access promptly at 10 p.m., they allegedly resorted to drugging the adults to gain more time on the computer.
A 15-year-old girl and her 16-year-old friend offered to pick up milkshakes for the girl's parents Friday night and then loaded the shakes with prescription sleep aids, The Sacramento Bee reported Thursday.
The parents reportedly woke up the next morning with "unexplained hangover symptoms" that caused them to get drug test kits from the police department.
When the kits tested positive, the unnamed teenagers were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy and willfully mingling a pharmaceutical with food, the Sacramento Bee reported.
"The girls wanted to use the Internet, and they'd go to whatever means they had to," Rocklin Police Department spokesman Lt. Lon Milka told the Bee. "If they were adults, they could be facing prison time."
The 15-year-old complained to police about her parents' strict Internet policy when she was arrested, according to the Bee.
The girls were arrested as juveniles, and it's up to the District Attorney's Office to decide whether they could be tried as adults.
It's unclear what the girls did with their extra time online.
